How to deal with conversations with geeks.

Assisted Death: Pterry is in the news over it. He did the Dimbleby Lecture last night, and it was very moving, and I urge you all to watch it. The best post I have seen on the matter is here.

Sexual Harrassment: the post is about ending it at conventions, but it could easily be applied to workplaces too.

Chromatic Fandoms: despite agreeing with many of the criticisms of the exercise (detailed superbly by Debi here) I still think it was a cool thing to do. And the best one I saw was this re-imagining of Blake's Seven by moviegrrl.

Wikio Labs: an interesting new set of tools on Wikio. I particularly like the backlinks factory.

The Fail on Sunday ruins another life unapologetically. Why do people continue to buy the stupid rag?

And, in order to inject a bit of levity to proceedings, here's moviegrrl again with her reaction to the release of Apple's much-vaunted new tablet PC...

Hmmm. That "conversations with geeks" thing has me puzzled.

I thought I was a geek, but it seems I was mistaken! Geeks are apparently people who are obsessed with technology, crave accuracy at all times, and have very limited social skills! I'm a tecnological numpty, am numerically challenged and can talk the back legs off a donkey.

So what the hell am I? A nerd?

Thanks for the link to Tyrell's post on Pterry. Having just read the excerpted piece of the lecture in the Grauniad this evening which brought me to tears, I've just sobbed through Spem in Allium which is linked in Steve's post. Great post, and I just don't and can't understand anyone who says that someone in Pterry's situation shouldn't be allowed to end their life at the point at which is no longer becomes bearable to live.
