So, in adding Steph Flanders to They Really Do Exist I decided to google for her to see if she had a website other than her Stephanomics blog. Among the top ten google results for her name is some rather tame* smutfic.

The smut itself mayn't be that fabulous, but the disclaimer? The disclaimer is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. I hereby demand that ALL fic disclaimers henceforth be written in the form of open letters to Vince Cable.

* your definition of rather tame may differ from mine.

Some days I love the internet...

I must admit that I tend to avoid rpf, but it heartens me strangely that there are people out there writing smut about economists/economics journalists, something of a niche audience I'd imagine...

Funnily enough, I got 121 referrals for 'stephanie flanders stockings' last month - probably because I'm the chap that wrote the story you are talking about. That month, the page got viewed 436 times, with the disclaimer coming in a poor second at 55. I was at a loose end when I wrote this. It was part of, in a way, a blog post in 2008...

I was feeling truly desperate at the time - for some inspiration, that is. Newsnight and Newsnight Review always make me laugh - and the idea of someone like me hitting it off with one of the swish, rich, presenters appealed to me - I wrote it very quickly.

I published it as part of the post - dammit I was just going to stick it up there as a text file. Then suddenly, this crash came and Flanders got famous - and by some insane fluke I was hitting very high in Google. I couldn't believe it. For a while I was, like, number 2.

Most of my writing is not like that though.

It's weird though - that referral. You know, I think someone is saying something - or some rumour or joke has been propagated. Somewhere....'cause the hits ain't coming from links - they're coming from searches. Well, go figure, you can't seriously tell me there are 150 people a month cracking on to Flanders in tights. Unless, of course, it was ONE person - hitting us over and over - to freak the jesus out of us.

Someone once showed me some Paxman/Portillo slash which would make your eyes water. You're certainly not the only Newsnight pornographer out there. Rule 34 and all that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ms Flanders has a large male fanbase, but maybe my post will take some of your traffic... ;)
