It had The Demon Headmaster in it! And Sophie was the Queen! And... and... Oh, look, I've completely lost my reason. It was flawed, yes, but it was proper Doctor Who, and last week wasn't just a fluke, and I am SO happy that I have my show back.

And next week Ian McNeice is going to be Winston Churchill! How cool is that? YAY!

A more reasoned review may follow when I watch it again. Which I will.

I want to watch it again! This is the first time this has happened since Eccleston! HEEEE!

:D
I was seriously glued to the screen. Such a difference in watchability than the previous series. I thought the Tennant stuff was entertaining enough but I now I realise how good it could have been.
It also felt more like (obviously low-brow) SciFi than anything in the last few years. Also, no angst!
Smith's Doctor is so different and yet typically Doctor. I didn't think a really young one would work but it does.
If only the CGI monsters didn't look so plasticky. To be honest, I'd rather have crappy mechanical latex monsters than crappy CGI because the actors can at least physically interact with them. I finished watching Planet of the Daleks with Pertwee today. A bit cringeworthy in places but good fun.

I had to look up the "Demon Headmaster" because it didn't ring a bell (I still have cultural reference deficiency in these things) and first thought it was a previous Who villain but that wouldn't have made sense. Was a good series, then?

I remember the Demon Headmaster as a book. I left England after it had come out, but before it got televised. I do remember the actor, though, and very well; as Abbot Radulfus of Shrewsbury.

We didn't have a tellybox when I was a kiddie, but I remember the books well.

Same here, then they wanted me to be as enthused about dolphins. Save something that tried to have my hand off? No ta, pass the cheap tuna in the dubious packaging please.

(Alright, so technically I can't hold it against a critter for acting out when taken out of it's natural environment to be gawked at but I'm not going to like them any time soon. Rubbery gits.)

Wasn't it just so good? Yes it had it flaws but weirdly enough I didn't want to reach through the TV and wring Stephen Moffat's neck. Sorry to say though but I couldn't stand the cockney Queen; her accent did my head in D:

And omg, Ian McNeice! He's going to be so awesome ♥

Have you see the rage!wank posts over at LJ's doctorwho comm? It's amusing how much some of the fans hate the new series with an undying passion.

I'm right in thinking that Winston Churchill dude also played the Vicar from the Jonathan Creek special? Eeeee!

Who is feeling more like Who and less like The Happy Adventures of Doctor Jesus and His Massive Reset Button. Fwee!

Blimey, you're right! Although you say ``original'' as if there had ever been a remake.

...And the shouty man in Rome. And Baron Harkonnen in SciFi's recent Dune miniseries. He can't be anything other than awesome.
