I'm making a playlist for Holly on Spotify. It includes songs that I know she likes and also the songs I think it would do her good to listen to (see if you can pick out which ones are which ;)), and so far it looks like this:
What's Up - 4 Non Blondes
Sun Arise - Alice Cooper
Respect - Aretha Franklin
If it Wasnae For Your Wellies - Billy Connolly
Keep the Faith - Bon Jovi
Independent Women Part 1 - Destiny's Child
Lose Yourself (non-sweary edit) - Eminem
Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves - Eurythmics & Aretha Franklin
The World is Not Enough - Garbage
I Am What I Am - Gloria Gaynor
Working Class Hero - Green Day (no Lennon/Beatles originals on Spotify, sadly)
Fear of the Dark - Iron Maiden
The Wicker Man - Iron Maiden
A Praise Chorus - Jimmy Eat World
The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
I Love Rock 'n' Roll - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Man in Black - Johnny Cash
Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell
One Way - Levellers
Hey Jude - Magical Abbey Road Tribute Band
Galaxy Song - Monty Python
Feeling Good - Muse
These Boots Are Made for Walkin' - Nancy Sinatra
Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield
The Show Must Go On - Queen
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
We Will Rock You - Queen
Trouble - Shampoo
Rise Up - Skunk Anansie
Devil Gate Drive - Suzi Quattro
That's Not My Name - the Ting Tings
Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) - Thin Lizzy
Whiskey in the Jar - Thin Lizzy
Anybody have any further suggestions? No sweary ones, please, at least for now. Feministy and uplifting is good. Also sing along rock anthems seem to go down well.

Alex's favourites include:

The Automatic - Monster
Lush - she likes 500 (Shake Baby Shake) but perhaps Ladykillers is more to your feminist agenda?
Bis - all sorts of fun tracks including Secret Vampires and Kandy Pop
Freezepop - Science Genius Girl is a MUST
Barenaked Ladies - almost anything off the Snacktime album but especially Crazy ABCs
Kenickie - Punka
Elastica - Waking Up
VAST - Free (think being able to yell along "you can't tell me what to do any more" is irresistible)
The Ting Tings - Shut Up and Let Me Go (had to buy the album for her because she loves it so much, yells the words from the back of the car boisterously, fabulous)

Holly seems inordinately fond of the TingTings too.

Am going through all the suggestions today, somewhat belatedly LOL

Extraordinary Machine - Fiona Apple

Jerusalem - Bruce Dickinson

All the really uplifting Dresden Dolls songs are a bit sweary - not massively but 'Sing' has a swear in it and that's the one I wanted to recommend. Sadness.

That's a good list ;-)

Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves always goes down well with my kids.

There's only four people could have made that comment. JonBruv has a dreamwidth account, Dad's computer is knackered, and Mum usually comments on Facebook... Hello CharlieBruv!!

Hi CleverSis

great Track Though wasn't it?

BTW I get London BBC on my TV and they had a Lib Dem Blogger on there tonight who was nowhere near as clever, entertaining, informative, forthright or purple haired as you. I wont name him

I bet it was Mark Reckons. Or possibly Count Packula. They both appear on the telly a fair bit. I'd call them both friends, too.

Schoolhouse Rock - a whole bunch of little ditties about multiplication, grammar, and US history. All fun, and some of them are total earworms. I can still sing the preamble to the US Constitution I had to memorize when I was 12.

Animaniacs, a cartoon show by Steven Spielberg, featured some very clever, catchy songs. Some are educational, some just silly.
