Say "Oh go on then!" to AV

You all know my views on AV. It's a total dog's breakfast. If we had the chance to go for STV then I'd be campaigning for that like a rabid dog that hasn't had breakfast in days. HOWEVER, STV is not on the table, or even in a bowl on the floor, and a dog's breakfast is better than starving to death, which is what democracy does under first past the post. Emerging breathless from my distended metaphor, I announce that I am going to help out the Yes campaign.

And you can too, if you want.

All you need to do is phone a couple of people. It's easy. You don't even have to get out of bed. Sign up for the volunteering process here, and someone will get in touch with you soon.

If you have any doubts about which is the right side to be on in this, just look at the line up of self-interested politicos on the No Campaign team. Would you trust any of them to be doing this in the interests of the voter? Nah. They want to stitch it up for themselves. Don't let 'em.

I'm more than happy to do this, though I can't help but wonder just how much help or otherwise this will be to the campaign. Folk do not like being cold-called!

Also, since when has John "Hound Dog" Reid been a Lord?

Since he stood down at the last election.
I'm more confident than you are that this will help - Holly's done phone-bank stuff for the Lib Dems before, and I did a day of calling people for the European elections last year. You get a lot of people who don't support you, but hardly any who are angry about being called.

*Very* unfortunately, you do need to get out of bed. I just wandered along to the site assuming I could download a script and call someone for numbers and get going. But no, it's a physical phone bank. How quaint.

Virtual phone banks

I think they're planning virtual phone banks somewhere down the line (January, I think)

Hey all,

I have been doing a bit of work for the Yes Campaign in Leeds over the last week or so. It's a great, vibrant office with some lovely people so please do pop in and say hello if you get a chance even if it is just for a cup of tea and a chat.

The virtual phone bank is pencilled in for the 14th of December so hopefully it will be a bit easier for everyone after then. Please still sign up on the website though.
