- In the last two weeks I have left the house exactly five times:
  1. To go obtain sick note and then take it in to work, which took me three days to recover from.
  2. To go to Ninja Games to obtain boredom-busters, which took me two days to recover from.
  3. To go to Tesco to obtain food so that I do not starve, which took me a day to recover from.
  4. To go to the tattoo parlour and see Bob about sorting out his web presence, which took me a day to recover from.
  5. To go to the National Media Museum to interview Tony for [community profile] mygoditsthebaggageman, which took two and a half hours (not including travel) on Friday and from which I am just about recovered now. I slept 17 hours Friday night.
From this it can be seen that my recovery time from doing any sort of activity at all is getting less, but is still nothing like normal.

- [personal profile] matgb and [personal profile] magister have both been utterly amazing. The have both looked after me fabulously well - getting me dressed, helping me in and out of the bath and up and down stairs, getting me food and drink, walking the dogs for me - all the things which normally I would do without blinking, but which now require herculean effort. Our little household has been cramped but happy for most of that time, and it's 99% due to the efforts of my boys, and I love them both very much, particularly because they have both put up with my frustration and annoyance at my inability to perform simple tasks so well. I am now routinely referred to as lazyarse. [personal profile] magister has had to go back to Merseyside today, and things are going to be harder on [personal profile] matgb now he is sole carer, and hasn't got James to tag team with, so please be gentle with him, he may get grumpy. And I have to wait till my birthday to see James again. Woe :(

- I haven't heard back about housing benefit yet. This is irritating. I don't like messing my landlord about because he's an absolute sweetheart, and that's a rare thing in a landlord. I also haven't heard back about sick pay, which is unfortunate...

- Mum and Dad come back from their holidays tomorrow. This should take a bit of the pressure off Mat because he can always offload me onto them if I start driving him really insane.

- The three small keyhole surgery wounds are pretty much gone now, and the gret big one that was made after they realised keyhole wasn't going to wash is looking ok. Because she sewed it up from the inside, and because of the positioning of it, I don't think it's going to be very noticeable. The pain is barely there when I am sitting still now, and only flares up if I move at all. I still feel ten times better than I did before the surgery. So softly had gideon crept up on me that I hadn't realised what a profound effect he was having.

Anyway, yes, this post can basically be summed up as: Jennie is feeling shit, but better than she was, and getting better all the time, which is good. How are you lot?

A bit cold mostly. I'm wearing two pairs of socks right now. However I am really pleased you're on the mend.

I'm feeling utterly knackered and rather down after a long, fruitless and tiring trip to London and back yesterday, though at least I'm feeling cheered and reassured and loved by the actions of a few people who know who they are, one in particular (well in Prague actually).

and yes, I *did* lug the BFO Monster Chav-o-Vision across from Wyke without picking up a hernia. Know what the fault is though wondering whether cost-effective to fix or easier to butcher for parts

Approval for [personal profile] magister, who has behaved entirely characteristically and supportively here, I'd say.

Battling cold-with-flu-like-symptoms here, but could be a lot worse!

He is an angel sent from heaven on gossamer wings.

As regards colds, I recommend gin. It might not make you feel much better, but it makes you forget you feel bad for a while.

Um. Er. Thank you. Not sure what else to say. It's been a pleasure. And given that Sir G has known me 20 years, for what I've done to be described as characteristic means a lot. Rather happy now.

At least, as your icon says, you aren't dead yet :-)

Speaking as the carer for two sick people, I hope you take heart from the improvements you can see and feel, and don't be too hard on yourself for not getting better quicker.

Personally I find gin more bother than it's worth. Whiskey, lemon and ginger, however... only supposed to be for cols, but does wonders for almost any physical state. (Has to be real ginger though.)

I'd go for that, with a bit of honey in it for antiseptic properties.

You know how my whiny freshly-diagnosed-as-pneumonia-laden self has been. Blah blah cough wheeeeeeze blah

Glad things are improving and hopefully they continue to do so. Don't suppose you're going to get interesting tattoos when things heal to "decorate" the scars?

For saying I've 15 open wounds on my leg with surgical steel passing through each into the bone underneath which rip and tear through my skin and muscle daily, and I'm living with my parents and sister's family, and nearly all my friends are over a hundred miles away... I'm doing alright.

Still waiting for you to post that book that I requested as part of Byron's surgery fund that I'd hoped to give to [personal profile] ephrael for her birthday in September though. Or you could send me my £30 back. Up to you.

I have told Mat to make sure I do it tomorrow. I'm sorry I'm so rubbish. :(

How long do you have to have the scaffolding for? My mum had it in her ankle for ages around my 21st and she was in huge amounts of pain. Hope you have decent painkillers.

There was only so much reminding / nagging I felt I could do, really, especially as I know what it's like to be all-consumed by worry for health. I do sympathise and I am glad they've got you sorted though, you'll be back to feeling more yourself soon.

I'm hoping to be walking without aid by the London Olympics. The frame might come off late summer next year, but the consultant doesn't really know so hasn't told me explicitly. Having another operation in a couple of weeks to put a bit more on and it'll be at least six months after that. Luckily I do have lots of dihydracodeine, not that it did me much good last night, hardly slept at all.

When my cousin was 17/18 she had bone cancer in one leg and had to have a lot of bone removed, and then replaced with bits from the other leg and scaffolding and stretching. It was *not* fun, and I really feel for you. But when it was eventually all over she was fine, and still is.

My sleep patterns are all to cock at the minute too. Friday night I slept 17 hours, after 2 hours weds and thurs. Last night I got about 4.

Glad to hear you're getting better, if slowly.

Having finally recovered from that nasty cold, I'm just counting hours now to get off on holiday tomorrow morning (weather permitting but it's looking good) to see my parents over the holidays.
I would have liked to have a couple more days here to tidy and stuff but I guess that'll have to wait until the New Year.
I'll be back on the 27th and back at work on the 29th.
