I'm wondering if it was deliberate, and an attempt to subvert the trope?

It's the opposite of the fridge trope, shirley. They took her /out/ of the fridge. Several times.

I am resisting the urge to go onto Tv Tropes now. And if I do, I'm blaming you!

Having not seen the episode in question...

I can confidently say that I have no clue what on earth any of you are talking about, and hence have no opinion on the question asked. Cor, I'm never going to make a good policitian, is I?

That said, I do wish to associate myself with the general good wishes and festivities in miss_s_b's direction. Happy birthday, and much much love.

There were men in fridges too. They could have defrosted one of the Three Tenors and had it sing to the shark, but I'm not sure it would have been the same. And no, I would have had absolutely no objection whatever if Kazran had fallen in love with a bloke from a freezer.

Holy cow! I didn't catch that and now I feel a bit foolish for missing it. Yes, you're right of course.

I'm pretty sure I could mark off a few on my bingo card with "There were men in fridges too." and "It was an attempt to subvert the trope."

1 - Google "But men are drawn unrealistically too!"
2 - Episodic television that only barely passes the Bechdel Test is not attempting to subvert anything.

Oh, I had somehow blocked out the fact that Moffat wrote "Dr. Who". Having just watched "Jekyll", I probably should finally get round to "Who". (Big fan of "Coupling", me. ;-)

I failed to notice that Abigail was a woman - because I was too busy trying to remember from which Philip K. Dick short story the Moff pinched the counting-down refrigerators. (In the story, whichever it is, there are all sorts of people in the fridges; I can remember very little else about it - but it wouldn't surprise me if he remembered the story and failed to recognise it as a trope.)
