There are a lot of people who are active in politics and political journalism who did not grow up watching House of Cards (and its sequels) and the New Statesman, or even Yes Minister, and therefore How Things Actually Work is a closed book to them.

This post brought to you by the blindingly incompetent "analysis" of current political events by almost everyone, and mine and [personal profile] matgb's ongoing fascination and amazement with it

And let us not forget those who grew up reading Private Eye in the glory days of Ingrams/Cook/Foot/Waugh, before that craven squit Hislop emasculated it.

I don't think it's lack of awareness, it's lack of analytical ability. All the clueless "analysis" that says the SNP must have been in cahoots with Labour over the release of Al Megrahi suggests that people have grasped the idea of machinations behind the scenes alright, but don't have much of a clue about the motivations of the parties involved and the sheer antipathy between them.
