Cellar Floodage.

Yesterday our normally-very-dry cellar flooded. Mostly we are ok, but among the things damaged beyond repair were 2 full boxes of my comic collection (bye bye several years' worth of 2000AD) and lots of books. My dad is coming down later to help me take lots of Precious Things to the tip.

At least the complete set of Hammer Horror magazine was in plastic and then more plastic and then a box, so that is fine. Small mercies.

My side room flooded a few years back, and some of my stuff was messed up. Thankfully, nothing that was really sentimental got ruined, but it still gave me quite the scare. I'm glad it wasn't a total loss for you.

Some of the books that are unsalvageable are of very sentimental value - but we've saved some stuff that was important to me (see comment to Penny above)

This is the sort of thing one has nightmares about. Glad to see that the Hammer Horrors were unscathed, but the amount of personal history in what's lost is heart-rending.

Oh no! That's completely awful, losing comics and books to flooding or other damage is a real nightmare as they are often impossible to replace and hold so many memories :(

Ew, yuck. That happened to my mother once. Ruined a very nice wool rug and damaged several pieces of furniture.

It really is very frustrating.

One thing you may want to do is buy some cheap shelves if possible, and make sure everything you want to keep is up off the floor.

Ouch - much sympathy! I lost a lot of DWMs in similar circumstances a while ago :(
