I really wish I could say more. Doug comes out before each recording and pleads with the audience 'not to tweet'. They've had to fight really hard to get the live audiences, and I'm glad they have because getting us into the green room got me ridiculous boyfriend points with Mary.

Sorry, it's my post, and I'm flattered that Jen linked to it here. I've had a couple of awesome weekends in Shepperton watching the Red Dwarf recordings and meeting the cast, but the level of secrecy is such that I even put a very generic 'it's going to be really really cool' observation under a friends lock. I'm quite close to the production on a personal level, and although stuff seems almost doomed to leak at some point, I want to be able to look people in the eye and beg them for extra work next time they're casting.

The empowed women in video games... what's funny about this? The entire thread contained therein is painfully depressing. I've heard the exact same fucking things so many times, the same tired, bullshit stereotypes thrown out again and again with nary an attempt to challenge the prevailing attitude.

My only solace is the epic takedown Bioware gave to that privileged while male arsehole last year.

Sigh.

Yeah, I wasn't sure where the funny was in this - just seemed to be the same old bollocks that you really hope comes from a bunch of 14-year old boys who'll grow out of it one day.

I think I can see where Jennie's coming from. "Nuns ruined my RTS" is pretty amusing if you have my sense of humour. (I'm filing it alongside "butterfly wombs" under "stupid things people say on the internet".

However I think you're right too, and the whole thing is deeply depressing.

Nope. Genuine, I think. Sadly.

Oh it's real. The whole 'Men Going Their Own Way' thing is a branch of the 'Men's Rights Advocate' thing. Basically 'We're going to do whatever we want no matter whose lives we ruin cos WE IS MENZ an' OMG don't let GIRLZ tell u what to do EVAR!'

It's sad and pathetic but they're out there. I know a few. Most don't come out and state these beliefs when women around but a lot of men seem to agree with this shit. Kind makes me all the more determined to remain a crazy cat lady until the day I die...

Yea. I get tired of hearing this kind of crap all the time, but I suppose it's a side-effect of living in Tennessee, aka RepublicanBaptistLand. They just re-drew the voting districts and managed to split up the final last two "blue" districts so I suspect come the next election it will look like somebody bled all over the map.

*sigh*

I really need to move to another continent...

I found it more annoying than "funny" myself. A bunch of morons slagging off the entire female gender, I'm assuming as a way to feel better about themselves.

As much as I'd like to believe it's a parody... yea, I've seen shit like this posted in dead earnest. The MRA bunch have gotten very vociferous in recent years and like to hang out on forums like this to influence boys, and sadly it seems to work.

I think Magister should subject you and Matt to being up a tree. Unless he claims to be a goth too, unless you're going to have to get Holly to take the photos...

As a few people have mentioned, the "women in games" link made me want to burn things. Particularly the comment about realistic women's behaviour in combat - obviously not written by someone in the Forces, that.

I sort of assumed it was, too, at first, but reading some of the comments was distressing. Not to worry. It's not your fault people are wrong on the internet.
