Ed Davey "Bashing"

I'd like to make something clear, before any more cariacaturing of my position on Ed Davey goes on. My problem with him is not that he has a penis. My problem with him is that in his previous job, and despite lots of lobbying from people like Greg Mullholland and Gareth Epps, he decided that he was going to do his level best to contribute to fucking up the industry I work in, and have a great degree of fondness for. I dislike Ed being promoted, not because he is male, but because he FUCKED WITH MY LIFE.

His maleness has knack all to do with the fact that I think he has been overpromoted and will be rubbish; I bash him on his record, not his gender. I wouldn't care if he was a two-headed, three-armed hipster from Betelgeuse if I thought he could do the job. And while we're on the point, the fact that there are able and capable women who have not been promoted while he HAS been does not smack to me of meritocracy, and no amount of whinging from supposedly humourous people on this score is going to persuade me that this is meritocracy in action.

Well, I wasn't sure what opinion I was going to have today, but Zadok mansplained it to me! I thought the hideous gender imbalance in Government and in other positions of power was do do with some sort of institutional sexism, but now I see that it was all in my head! Men are just, on average, BETTER than women at any job you care to name that has more men doing it than women.

I sure am grateful to Zadok that his use of scare-quotes around 'privilege' showed me how silly I was being in thinking that he enjoyed any different social position than I did, just because of his expressed gender. How lucky he told us that he had female friends, because friends are an automatic gateway to understanding everything!

I feel utterly enlightened, about everything except what he considers to be the definition of 'ironic.'

Can I be the lone voice in the wilderness saying that I'd really like a two-headed, three-armed hipster from Betelgeuese to be promoted, even if he/she (could the heads be of different gender?) were to steal something very expensive and run off with it at the first oppotunity?

Absolutely. Jazz Hands was right that we have so few women in Parliament, and so few Cabinet posts, that statistically we should expect few or no women in Cabinet. That's a reasonable point.

Zadok saying that the little ladies are just getting above themselves and acting like a patronising shit, though, just made me embarassed for my entire gender.
