On a tangent, have you heard about this:
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20120229/04115017911/uk-trying-to-censor-parody-video-about-2012-olympics.shtml

I didn't even *realise* that the UK has no 'right to parody'. Now I am fucking scared.

((BTW, see you Saturday.))

It was recommended by the most recent copyright enquiry, but no, not at the moment.

As someone pointed out in the techdirt article's comments, what's to stop the video's creator sending it to a friend in America, who then posts it. Would it then be protected under US parody laws?

But bloody hell, are the authorities in this country really that terrified of ridicule? I'm surprsied Mock the Week and HIGNFY are still broadcasting, knowing that.

What makes this one particularly vulnerable to being censored is that the mascots are registered trade marks as well, which allows for rather more aggressive legal action.

Its probably a good thing I still haven't got round to making my "Official Elder Gods" parody of the posters that came out months ago.

Or it could mean that they will remake "The Tingler". Possibly directed by Michael Bay.

Thank you for that first link. It's something I've been saying for years and the author put it much better than I've ever been able to.
