Yes. The same as you can dance the hula or drink coffee or fart in tunes and be a feminist. Feminism means belief in equality, not any particular attitude to bodily adornment.

Is it sexist to call a woman "love" or "dear"?
To paraphrase the NRA: words aren't sexist, people are. It's not about the word, it's about the use to which a word is put, and the intention behind using that word. Depending on inflection "I love you" can mean "I love you" or it can mean "you are the worst person in my world". Why should "love" or "dear" be any different?

Should women take their husband's name when they get married?
If they want to. I'm a liberal; I don't believe in applying shoulds to situations like that. It's equally possible, of course, that a man might wish to take his wife's name. Or they might want to make up an entirely new name. And isn't this question a bit heteronormative? I mean, even cardinal Keith O'Brien recognises that relationships are not all one man one woman, even if he doesn't like it.

Is Rihanna a feminist icon?
I don't know anything about Rihanna? I like P!nk, personally.

More acceptable than being a Daily Mail journalist, in my eyes. At least it involves honest toil.

Oh, the wage gap, rape and consent issues, the childcare gap, the ingrained nature of benevolent sexism, the use of casual bullying to suppress women's thought and accuse us of humourlessness, the assumption that all feminists care about is superficial bollocks like the things you ask about above...

Um. What does it matter if she writes songs about S & M? How in any way does that mean she is advocating the abuse she suffered? Honestly, I don't get why this women gets so much shit thrown at her.

I didn't say nor imply that it was at all advocating the abuse she suffered, nor would I. I'm saying that other people are perceiving it as some sort of "strong woman" thing when it's not. It's pop fluff with a tee hee "edge."

I couldn't give a crap about Rhianna. I don't understand why people are doing the opposite. She doesn't deserve roses any more than she deserves shit.

I'm pretty indifferent to her TBH. I just don't get why she inspires so much hate.

And I despise the fact that the media has made Chris Brown a martyr for beating her. And they HAVE. I think the reason people sostrongly about it is this is exactly what happens all the time in situations of abuse the victim is blamed.

I'd be perfectly happy if both Chris Brown and Rihanna dropped off the pop radar altogether. Neither one of them have all that much talent as it is.

I do agree it's disgusting that people did such a turnaround and did start blaming the victim here like happens entirely too frequently.

It's not so much writing the song about S&M that's the issue. It was the lyrics and the way the video portrayed BDSM, trivialising it.

(A lot of people also suggested that by publishing a song about it, she was validating the beating or something, saying "we're into kink so that he beat me up is fine" but I call bullshit on that.
