Re: Trail of Cthulhu, GUMSHOE games need a GM who knows what they're doing and they're brilliant. I played a ToC game at a con last year that wasn't any different from a classic CoC scenario as it didn't flow as well as a ToC game should. I also played another one in which not a single die was rolled. It's not about the rules but about how you structure the story so the PCs can do what they are supposed to.
