Re: Hunger Games.

I don't think it's the film that is the problem, I think it's racist and sexist little twerps projecting their own prejudices onto the film/book.

I just finished the book out of curiosity and found it gripping, though I realize it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

And yeah, it's mentioned more than once that Rue is black.

Totally agree with you. It's very clear in the book that Rue and Thresh are black.

I spent some time reading a Tumblr which documents racefail Hunger Games tweets (http://hungergamestweets.tumblr.com/) which is really interesting. I think that this whole furore has actually brought the whole "default white" casting thing out in the open which is good as it's actually being discussed and the "default whiters" are being challenged which can only be a good thing.

I loved the book btw, and thought the film was fantastic.

Even in 1915 feminists had a sense of humour.

Don't be too quick to assume they were joking. I've just read Emmeline Pankhurst's autobiographical account of the suffrage movement - I'll post a proper review at some point, but one of the depressing things about it was the discovery that she really did oppose universal votes for men.

The post office is not a dying industry. Who do you think delivers all those things people buy off the internet?

*reads the article*

"Cost less than a chocolate bar"

What kind of ridiculous crazy 70p chocolate bars are these people buying?

Ones in vending machines and the shops outside the tube.

Hmmm.

I believe you (and the article). It just conflicts with what I heard from a postie a few years ago. Guess things are really changing.

Putting up the price of stamps will only help in the very short run as people stockpile this month.

But with the postal costs what they are the best thing we can do to save the royal mail is not to send mail as they loose money on every letter don't they
