- Peter Black: Time to make a stand
Peter is spot on about the CCDP
- Owen Jones: Working-class Toryism is dying and it's taking the party with it - Commentators - Opinion - The Independent
The problem with Owen's conclusion is: most of what is hurting the working classes is Labour policy being continued by the Tories (and us, for the shame of it). The reason they don't vote Labour EITHER is because they remember that, at least for the moment.

Date: Saturday, June 16th, 2012 10:03 am (UTC)Trouble is, they haven't quite realised that the days of a split left-wing vote ended as soon as the Lib Dems signed up for coalition (sorry; it would have taken a miracle for the Lib Dems to avoid being tainted by that, no matter how the reality played out). Those of us committed to left wing ideals, whoever's pushing them, are just waiting for someone we can get behind - and cannot for the life of us understand why Labour aren't meeting that demand. I can only assume that for Blair to have taken control of the party in the first place, its spirit had to be so comprehensively broken that it could never stand up for itself again... since that appears to be what's happened.
Unfortunately, there's no such thing as intensive psychotherapy for political parties.
