Those are pretty cool cast choices, but I wouldn't want to see it rebooted.

Seconded. "Star Trek" should always move forward with only the odd retread of old material. (Because I enjoyed "We don't discuss it with outsiders!" and even the recent film.)

I'm not convinced about a reboot, I think I'd rather see the series move on after they've got over their "Young Kirk in Alternate Universe" kick. How about Idris Elba as Worf's son, commanding the Enterprise G (or whatever letter the next one should be)?

This

The best thing they could do is actually to the 3rd gen enterprise with a new crew give the characters a season of planet of the week episodes to find their feet and settle with a small amount of plot then start building the arc but slowly and give it some dramatic tension and interesting stories which seemed to be completely missing from enterprise

That TNG recasting seems terribly unimaginative. Why cast actors who are so similar to the originals? Particularly when you consider that, for example, Yaphet Kotto was on the original shortlist to play Picard.

Exactly. I'd much rather have any reboot cast actors who can portray the character well, I don't care if they look similar or not, the character is important, the appearance is what the actor looked like at the time (well, with the exception of Worf).

And I didn't know Kotto was shortlisted, always liked him as an actor, and still haven't got around to buying some Homicide boxed sets.

I don't even care, particularly, about the characters.

Just give me another Trek series with people boldly going!

Letters of Note has the shortlist here (http://www.lettersofnote.com/2010/08/star-trekcasting.html). There are some interesting names on there, including Wesley Snipes as Geordi and Jenny Agutter as Beverley Crusher.
