  From a US perspective - I certainly have no trouble getting hold of goat/sheep/buffalo cheese here - but worth reading purely for the guy talking about how to make pig cheese at the end....

The Slate article about the dairy of other animals is over dramatizing it like whoa. Sure, you can generally find one brand of goat milk or goat butter in any given regular ol' grocery store around here (and not just at Whole Paycheck but the fact that he probably exclusively shops there says a lot).

However, we have absolutely no trouble finding a vast variety of goat cheeses from soft to hard, sheep cheeses and the buffalo cheeses at any grocery store, not just the fancy-schmancy ones. I've also found sheep milk yogurt in most stores as well.

Besides that, it's not like cow milk is the only sort of "milk" that Americans drink anymore. Your average grocery store carries soy, rice, almond and coconut milks in or next to the case with the cow milk. Not in the "dairy" case but on the shelves in many stores you can also find hemp and oat milks and less often cashew and hazelnut milks.

Since Emily's nieces are cow-milk intolerant, I've made them apple crisp with goat butter and a mac and cheese that they LOVE with goat cheddar, goat milk and goat butter

So, basically they are doing what the UK press do and over-exaggerating? OK, good to know.

The story about the guy trying to milk a pig is still funny though.
