On a tiny benefit of the doubt note, Miss Trunchbull was a former Olympic shot putter in the book, wasn't she? Or was it the hammer? Something like that, it's been a while. It spoils a nice ranty blog, so I can see why the author has gone with the 'comparing female athletes to a hideous child-abuser' bit but... yeah.

It's been far too long since I read Matilda. I remember Bruce Bogtrotter managing to eat the whole chocolate cake that was intended to be a punishment and being so full afterwards that he doesn't even notice Trunchbull crowning him with the plate.

We had a teacher called Miss Hunnibal at school. Her nickname was Miss Honey right up until she was a women's hockey umpire at the Atlanta Olympics, whereupon she was rechristened as Trunchbull.

Even now, I don't think I could read it without remembering Victoria Wood's Jackanory rendition.

The "Daddy, can I have a book?" exchange still sticks in my mind over two decades later...

Drifting back to the original thing - I'm still reeling from the number of fail things posted by my friends about my photo with Fatima Whitbread and Colin Jackson on Facebook earlier this year. People casting nasturtiums on Fatima's gender included a gay man, a lesbian, my own brother and a furry (although I think he was actually having a pop at me with his 'Brittas Empire' comment, the hedgehog-fancying shit). People who, for one reason or another, you would really think would know better. I think muscular girls present problems for a far wider range of people than your linky person allowed.
