McInerney's piece sounds very similar to the ailment that afflicts our am dram choreographer who finds her will to live draining away every time she sees me standing among the chorus on the stage, saluting cheerfully.

She's a professional dancer, trained with Danny John Jules, appeared liberally on stage and screen including wearing an enormous hat behind Val Kilmer in The Saint, choreographed various music videos, etc, etc...

And now she can barely hold it together for long enough to put together a two minute routine to accompany Reach in an amateur panto. It's just awful. But... I'm not sure it says much about mental illness. It has altered the company's perceptions of disability benefit claimants - and being in leafy Barnes with Zac Goldsmith as our MP, you can just imagine that they weren't naturally the leftiest bunch on that sort of issue - but it's very obviously a physical illness. She hates not being able to work, she hates the system that is so restrictive about the work she can do when she's at times when she's feeling a bit better. We've got a choreographer, presumably in her late 40s, who can still stick a leg behind her head without blinking, but can't walk more than a few dozen metres.

I think if she'd have said "invisible illness" rather than "mnental illness" her point would have been made better.

yep, I was confused by the label mental illness in that article though her points about how people react the mental illness being similar do hold out
