"no matter how hard I tried to ‘pull myself together’ or ‘make myself read’ it was simply impossible and that impossibility was boring and frustrating and lonely, and sometimes those feelings conspired to make me think and behave in ways that I’m not proud of. I became whiny, and difficult, sometimes even downright rude and I hated myself for it even more."

Date: Tuesday, October 30th, 2012 09:48 am (UTC)She's a professional dancer, trained with Danny John Jules, appeared liberally on stage and screen including wearing an enormous hat behind Val Kilmer in The Saint, choreographed various music videos, etc, etc...
And now she can barely hold it together for long enough to put together a two minute routine to accompany Reach in an amateur panto. It's just awful. But... I'm not sure it says much about mental illness. It has altered the company's perceptions of disability benefit claimants - and being in leafy Barnes with Zac Goldsmith as our MP, you can just imagine that they weren't naturally the leftiest bunch on that sort of issue - but it's very obviously a physical illness. She hates not being able to work, she hates the system that is so restrictive about the work she can do when she's at times when she's feeling a bit better. We've got a choreographer, presumably in her late 40s, who can still stick a leg behind her head without blinking, but can't walk more than a few dozen metres.
