The Blood is The Life 31-10-2012
Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 09:00 am- The silence of Jimmy Savile’s lambs
"The ongoing failure to help us is as much a scandal as the failures of 30 years ago to catch our abusers. If everyone’s starting point is our welfare and we all work outwards from there, at least things will be going in the right direction. If you really care about the abused and want to catch their abusers, vicarious outrage is of limited use. Sustained lobbying for the financing of relevant social services will do more than hysterical posturing and calls to “cut their balls off”. Then again, the former isn’t really news and the latter is much easier."

Date: Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 09:41 am (UTC)they should do to his corpse what they did to Cromwell. if he's been cremated, throw his ashes down a latrine.
....and in writing this, i know exactly how i fell right into what you were cautioning against. christ, i'm such a fool. hanging cromwell didn't do anything for him, since he's already dead. i can't imagine savile caring much, either, since he's already gotten his pleasure out of life.
even comparing the two is ridiculous.
i hate it.

Date: Thursday, November 1st, 2012 10:59 am (UTC)there have been instigations from former child stars of hollywood that, when they were working in it (and i imagine it's still the same) it's no more than a vast pedophile ring. this, i found interesting, since molestation survivors often engage in dangerous behaviour (drugs, sex, parties, etc), like many child stars when they get into their teens and beyond. corey feldman, drew barrymore, river phoenix.. i really wonder what some of these guys went through, not from the actual work, but the people around them. some are okay, like barrymore now, wil wheaton, seth green, but they did it on their own, and i think others had real support from friends and family.
it's not just that, suddenly, your parents are your business partners and these things are just THERE, readily available... corey feldman made that statement. corey haim, his friend who OD'ed, another child actor, he said the reason he had so many problems was because he was molested.
and, if it's by someone important, like a big-time producer, what're you supposed to do? go to your "business partners"?
i know- it's hearsay and it's mainly all what one person says... but i wouldn't be suprised. i AM surprised no one else in that industry hasn't attempted to protect others.
but they didn't with Savile, who targeted people with problems so to cover his ass in case anything or anyone did come out with something. "oh, she's a runaway, or a drug addict, or has problems.. she's just making it all up for attention."

some child stars obviously did okay, and weren't abused (at least it didn't come out publicly, or manifest itself in self-medication). seth green and wil wheaton seem fine. there are loads of others i can't think of. sean astin is another one who seems fine. (i think his mother took care to make sure his upbringing was as normal as possible for a child star, considering her history).
it's easy to think of the numbers of child actors who eventually had major problems. the list goes on and on- whether it's to molestation or not, it's only for them to say.
