Doctor Who Fandom Challenge Days 16 and 17: Favourite actor and Least favourite actor

Favourite Actor

Colin, obviously.
But after him I think, for regulars, it's joint between Nicholas Courtney and Lis Sladen, both of whom were reportedly very lovely. Frazer Hines is up there somewhere too, just for his wicked sense of humour.
For people who didn't appear as regulars, I'll have to mention cousin Di, even though she's not technically appeared in it yet. But aside from her, it's got to be the amazing, stunning, witty, Jacqueline Pearce. I quite liked Jacks, as she prefers to be called*, until I went to a convention in Sheffield last year and absolutely fell in love with her. She's so friendly and engaging, and naughty. Standing in the doorway of the convention hall having a ciggie with her and chatting about booze is a moment I will treasure always.

Least favourite actor

There's not much contest for this one, I'm afraid. Matthew Waterhouse. I don't like his character, he doesn't act the character well anyway, and he's really annoying on commentaries and in interviews.

In all the times I have spoken to people who have been fans longer than I have, I have never ever heard a good word spoken about Matthew Waterhouse; I've never come across someone who is disliked for not just their character but also as a person too.

Also, cousin Diana Rigg?! Did I miss this?!

She's some sort of second cousin of my dad's. Not a close relative. Sadly.

Both John Levene and Richard Franklin are pretty much loathed, too. I've never quite known what people's problem with Levene is (but then I've got no real interest in the backstage gossip stuff), but Franklin is a genuinely loathsome person, far more so than Waterhouse.

I let myself be taken in by Matthew's Blue Box Boy, but on reflection his sneering at Peter Grimwade is unjustified and his belittling of Andrew Smith's contribution misjudged to say the least.

Don't think I can argue with either of them.

I can't comment on his allegations of sexual harassment against Grimwade, but Grimwade was already an experienced writer before he directed an episode of Doctor Who; and Andrew Smith wrote more of Full Circle than Waterhouse wants to admit.

Favourite actors -- for their performances, Kevin Stoney, Philip Madoc and Terry Molloy, but as people Sophie Aldred has seemed by far the nicest, and Mark Strickson the one I'd most want to talk to.

Least favourite -- Richard Franklin. He's a terrible actor, his political views are vile, I've heard things about his behaviour from people I trust that make me consider him beneath contempt, and the one time I saw him at a convention he was an utter bore.

There used to be something online about Richard Franklin's conduct in his 'Franklin's Bow-Wows' days, which if untrue, was actionable.

It's still online, and I know the person who posted it fairly well (as does Jennie), and trust him absolutely on that matter. That's the main reason I consider Franklin a despicable human being, rather than just a bad actor with unpleasant right-wing views and a tedious manner.

I was being cautious in my phrasing, but never seriously doubted the truth of the text. A nasty piece of work, I think.
