I wrote around this subject towards the end of 2011, and it was not at all popular. I got loads of whinging messages with a "Yes, but..." kind of theme.

The only article I've had stranger messages about was one about an NHS text 'reminder' service to help people trying to quit smoking.

people really don't want to admit that sexism still exists and that they might be a part of propping it up. They recognise that sexism is perceived as bad (or racism or homophobia or ableism etc) and therefore that being accused of complicity with the bad thing casts them in a bad light, so they rail against what seems to them to be an unjust accusation. It doesn't seem to occur that solving the problem of sexism/racism/etc would also stop the accusations coming...

The debate I mentioned in a previous thread I am very pleased that I no longer have to play devils advocate in as I am now proposing This house believes it is more difficult for woman than men to be scientific leaders

I am going to use the Yale study about gender names on CVs and probably something about work/housework/personal time balance but I will be interested to see what my opponent says
