I think there's no point - in the sense that it's very unlikely to work - in trying to guess who the new pope will be. It's more like Kremlin-watching (in the pre-1991 era) than anything else.

I suspect we'll win, because the polls have it as between us and the Tories, and the Tories have been constantly talking up UKIP, so that if they only come second it'll still look like a victory to the gullible. That presumably means that they don't think they have much of a chance...
