I remember when I was a kid of probably about ten but maybe more or less watching the Lon Chaney senior version of phantom of the opera on channel 4 as part of a run of phantom of the opera films which also included the Claude rains one and (I think) the Herbert Lom one and a couple of others. I'm reasonably sure they showed five versions of the story, but I don't know if one of them was a TV movie, and i think at least one version was foreign language.

I'd like to know what films were shown in that season. I'm reasonably sure there's a website which tells one when particular films were shown on British tv, but I can't find it and my Google fu is failing me and I've had a really shit day and my brain won't work.

Any ideas?

Looking into this... have so far found a screening of Phantom of the Opera, Chaney version, on BBC 2 on 8 June 1984, rescheduled from the previous March when it had been displaced by a rugby match. This isn't what you are looking for, though...

Channel 4, meanwhile, showed the Rains version on 29 December 1984...

...this might be a bit early...

Nevertheless the Herbert Lom version followed on BBC2 on 8 February 1985.

...and ITV showed the Maximilian Schell-led 1982 TVM on 8 November 1986. (This was shown by all regions except Central, who preferred Once Upon a Time in the West.)

Back to BBC 2, and the Lon Chaney version is shown on a Saturday lunchtime, 12.50pm, 23 December 1986. This was a tinted version.

Just a few months later, Saturday 16 May 1987, 2.55pm, Channel 4 show the Lon Chaney Phantom. This is looking promising...

...and indeed, Sunday 24 May 1987, at 10.10pm, Channel 4 viewers met Claude Rains's Phantom in the Arthur Lubin film.

That looks like it for a Channel 4 season, but ITV Central viewers caught up with the 1982 TVM in the early hours of Wednesday 28 May.
