So various people are saying that all Muslims need to apologise for the Charlie Hebdo attacks, despite the fact that one of the first victims was a Muslim, and most Muslims are peaceful and many have condemned the attacks as unIslamic. Well, if we're in the business of making people apologise for things that are nothing to do with them but vaguely in the same demographic, here are some things I feel I should apologise for:
  • Eugenics
  • Julie Bindel
  • The cultural appropriation of other people's food, customs, and vocabulary by the English since time immemorial
  • Richard Dawkins
  • The Daily Mail in general and Quentin Letts in particular
  • bankers
  • the 1998 Godzilla remake
  • Ched Evans
  • All the ridiculous arseholes who suggest that every Muslim is responsible for extremist wankers. Yes, Rupert Murdoch, I'm looking at you.
This list is obviously not exhaustive.

I would like to add:

The Crusades
Gamergate
Band Aid
Band Aid 20
Band Aid 30
The remaining after effects of the Thatcher government
Son of Sam
Danny Dyer's advice column
Kingdom of Heaven
Piers Morgan

Moving away from apologies I would like to say Je suis Ahmed, but frankly it would be fucking presumptuous for me to do so as I doubt I would ever have the courage to do what he did.

Ha, I immediately thought of both Margaret Thatcher and Piers Morgan, too. Also capitalism.

"The cultural appropriation of other people's food, customs, and vocabulary by the English since time immemorial"

I'm actually entirely in favour of this, and believe the idea that associating specific foods, customs, vocabularies, etc. with one group of people is a disgusting idea. One of the awesome things about culture is that it's variable, and that it mixes and merges with the cultures it interacts with. Freezing it at one point and declaring that _these_ people act in this way and _those_ people act in that way is horrifying to me. We should all be sharing, changing, and improving all of our cultures by taking the bits that individually suit us best.

Cultural Imperialism, where one powerful group eradicates the culture of another, is generally a bad thing, I agree. But nobody _owns_ any given culture. And nor should they.

How could you forget Katie Hopkins and Keith Chegwin?

Oh and you might as well add in Lord Sugar while we're thinking about it.

More people need to apologise for the Daily Mail, I agree.

As a white Australian, I would like to add my apology for the following:

Rupert Murdoch and his offspring of working age (I may or may not need to apologise for the younger ones at a later date)

Rolf Harris

Skin cancer rates

Assorted attempts at genocide
