So, after work we went to the cinema to see Tweeney Sod (my spoiler-free review is here). And then we went to get the bus home and we had a while to wait, and so we popped in to the pub nearest the bus stop. It was amazing. It was the very essence of pubness. It even had a piano. We will definitely be going back there again.

Then we got the bus back to pick Shrubby up from Ian's... and that's where it all went horribly wrong. I wanted to get some of my stuff that's still at Ian's house. The particular stuff I wanted wasn't there. Ian's reaction to this? Deny that it was ever there. Then say that it must be at my house. Then deny ever having seen it, much less move it. Then shoutingly admit that he must have packed it in a box but he doesn't know where he's put it. Within five minutes he'd reduced me to tears, then gone downstairs and started shouting his denials at Mat too. Mat's reaction? He came upstairs, gave me a comforting hug, helped me to search through the boxes to make sure I hadn't missed what I was looking for, said lots of soothing and comforting things while we were looking, and was a, both calm and calming and b, useful.

On the way home he carried Shrubby on his shoulders, making her giggle and entertaining her all the way. We got home, and he told me to take the dogs for a walk to cool off and calm down while he put Shrubby to bed, and when I got back from walking the dogs he had found Top Gear on the Virgin on Demand and asked me what I wanted to drink.

An evening of contrasts indeed. I don't know what I did to deserve this wonderful, caring, supportive, amazing man, but whatever it was I am so glad I did it. SO glad.
