The electorate were misled. Don't get angry at them; persuade them to get angry at the lying arseholes that sold them this crock of shit and told them it was shinola.

The shittiness of the crock of shit is already becoming apparent, but there's no use screaming I told you so at people who already feel crap because they were duped. Telling people they were wrong when they know they were wrong only leads to them doubling down and blaming immigrants, "benefit scroungers", women and LGBT+ folk even harder.

Don't tell them they were wrong, tell them they were tricked. Tricked by the same Bullingdon Boys they thought they were sticking two fingers up to. And then tell them what they can do about it, if they want to.

Show them that there are some politicians who will tell them the truth.
Show them that there is a better way.
Show them liberalism.

I've already seen elsewhere some acquaintance of a friend on FB saying they and a lot of young voters they know voted Leave in order to "Get rid of Cameron." It doesn't help, does it?

How to deal with people who voted leave because it's just easier to blame foreigners and Brussels for everything? I'm going with polite silence for now. Although you could cut the air with a knife. All those Union Jack waving vote leave supporters who didn't for one second realise that their vote might lead to the end of the UK as we know it. :/

On my way up to chez Ani-parents this afternoon, I saw Mummy-Ani with Foss (cocker spaniel) on his walk a little ahead of me and ordinarily, I would have walked back with them. Instead, I made a point of taking a completely different route to them, all because I couldn't trust myself not to cry/shriek/scream in her face in public. None of which I wanted to do.

I'm maintaining a "Don't mention the war" stance right now. I can't trust myself over anything else.

70 years peace in Europe? Not worth a Remain. :(

I have to say I am quietly amused that the DUP's preferred vote could lead to the dissolution of the Union.

NI is now 100% energy self-sufficient, thanks to the power generated by Ian Paisley spinning in his grave.

You know, that is really good advice, and just about the only thing that has made me feel a bit better today. Thank you.

You know, if I see one more asshole saying "old people shouldn't be allowed to vote" I might just puke to be honest.

Disenfranchising people when they turn 65 is a pretty terrible thought I think but I see a lot of people claiming to be liberal and progressive doing just that on social media. You'd think they'd be more invested in trying to get the 18-30 age group to vote MORE instead of saying you should just cut a large section of the population out of the process entirely (a section that quite frankly are fairly vulnerable in a multitude of ways).

Honestly getting angry at the pensioner set is really shifting the blame entirely in the wrong direction and does nothing to address the real problem of shitty political demagoguery and a media that is not held to any kind of standard of truth.

ETA: to be fair it's mostly on tumblr I've been seeing these posts being passed around and I don't generally expect nuanced thought on that website but it's still crawling up my nose big time...
