[personal profile] amazing_holly's first trip to the cinema being such an amazing film? PRICELESS.

So, yeah, we spent our lottery winnings on going to see the new Star Trek film. And at some bits Holly had to hold my hand. And at some bits we hugged. And at some bits we giggled. And when they hid behind Titan and came up through the clouds and you could see Saturn she said it's SATURN! I LOVE SATURN! But best of all was at the end when we were hugging each other and going YAYYYYYY!!! and Leonard Nimoy said Space. The final frontier....

Oh man, that was amazing. And as the credits rolled she started sniffling, and tears rolling down her face, and I asked her what was wrong. She said I'm sad it's over, mummy!

That's my girl.

Oh yeah, [personal profile] matgb and I really enjoyed it too. Might be a proper review later when I come down from my high.

:D

I think I'll have to shove my fears to the side and go see it then! Nothing quite like getting a Star Trek nerd's seal of approval ;)

There are a couple of bits that niggled at my feminism, but it terms of faithfulness to the spirit of TOS? It had it in spades. There was real genuine love there. McCoy was amazing. Scotty was a bit OTT, but Pegg was clearly loving it. Sulu was awesome. Checkov was fab (although he had curly hair).

And, you know... Captain Pike! Green Orion girls! Redshirts! English Redshirts who say ARSE! And Winona Rider's Amanda... it's a small part, but Cthulhu she's good.

I really, really loved it.

Well, yes. Scotty felt a bit squeezed in at the last minute and mainly milked for comic relief and plot advancement. Still very enjoyable.

For some reason, I felt that the CGI monsters really clashed with the film. In "Star Wars" or "Starship Troopers" I would not have minded but here....
And Winona Ryder awakened the little 90s-goth-fanboy in me. ;-)

I know what you mean about the CGI monsters, but there was only a BIT of CGI monster, and it was blasted out of my mind by "I have been, and always will be, your friend" about ten seconds later.
