Words cannot express how hard my jaw hit the table when I saw this trailer for Guy Richie's Holmes movie this morning.

It's going to be horrendous. It's going to be awful. It's going to be disgustingly unfaithful to both the source and the definitive interpretation by Brett.

It's got naked Robert Downey Junior in it.

Shit.

I'm going to have to go see it, aren't I? And then immerse myself in cleansing Brett!Holmes afterwards.

Guy Ritchie putting the "onan" in Conan Doyle there, marvellous.

It's going to be camp and silly and stupid and I'm going to love it. But it's really not going to be true Holmes.

Yeah I figure if you go there just expecting a fun film you won't be disappointed. If you're a real purist who is going to get angry just don't watch it!

Actually, it looks like a lot of fun, in a Van Helsing kind of way. It doesn't look like Ritchie's trying to do one of the classic cases but rather just play with the characters.
I'm more of a Basil Rathbone man myself. ;o)

Nothing that has Robert Downey Jr. handcuffed to a bed could possibly be bad.

As an utter Rathbone fangirl, my jaw did indeed drop to the floor. I don't think it's going to be a great Sherlock Holmes film, and I do think that Guy Ritchie has read List of Seven for sheer chutzpah.
But, like I said, on a hormonal level, it fills me with all sorts of glee that has nothing to do with Arthur Conan Doyle. I hope that it is good fun and entertaining, otherwise, really what's the point?

It also packs a stunning amount of bromance into 2 minutes 22 seconds.

Looks like a level of bastardisation on par with The League of Extraordinary Gentleman

Bastards.

If you want me I'll be sailing De-Nile with canon!Brett!Holmes :-P

Oh, I don't know it looks quite fun in a Young Sherlock Holmes type way.

mm. i have seen this movie's been in the makes. i've just chosen to ignore it.

and, strangely, i'm sure Brett wouldn't have given a toss. different interpretations are always welcome for such a character. whether the audience likes it, that's different.

so, i just ignore. ~shrugs~

It looks like one of those films, that if you try to take seriously you'll end up making your head explode. Its just a laugh, just enjoy it for the entertainment factor.

And naked Robert Downey Jnr is never ever a bad thing ;)

I think it could be fun, but really. Sherlock Holmes shouldn't look so... moist. (And I AM fond Robert Downey, Jr.)
