Entry tags:books, f-list is made of awesome, rambles
Am trying to write the post that I obliquely promised yesterday about rules vs guidelines, and am finding it difficult to concentrate because next door's two extremely stupid boxer dogs are alternately trying to tear each other to pieces and barking at people who dare to walk past. Also [livejournal.com profile] andrewducker tells me that there are people in this world who don't have huge piles of books in the bathroom. This is perplexing and frightening to me. I would have had a discussion about it with him on LJ, except that LJ is being an arse for me today and refusing to submit my comments. Seriously, what sort of weirdo doesn't have reading material in the bathroom? It's just WRONG.

Speaking of books, this girl is my newest hero. It's a bit depressing that she has to resort to this, but it's very cool that she is doing it.

And speaking of even MORE books: my friend [livejournal.com profile] cassandravert has asked me to plug her bookselling website, which needs a bit of a polish in terms of site design (I note that some of the buttons at the bottom don't work in my version of Firefox), but has a pretty impressive stock list. I suspect many of you will find something of interest on there.

And now I am going to go for a bath, and take my notebook with me, and see if that helps me to compose this damn post. Got to get my # of blog posts still to write down for next Sunday... *tries to ignore the fact that gmail inbox is at 66 and facebook at 31 unread*

ETA: oh yeah, ifn yer in Yorksher, don't forget to vote here.

People who read in the bathroom - especially if it's the only room with a loo in the house - go straight onto My List. Some of us don't get much warning about needing to use that room!

I tend to read in the bath rather than on the bog, and I don't mind people using the loo when I'm in the bath because I'm an exhibitionist.

needs a bit of a polish in terms of site design

A bit. Then a bit more. Then possibly a complete revamp...

Sorry. It, um, looks like something out of the mid 90s. Flashblock tells me there's a fair bit of hidden flash, the screaming red ALL CAPS headlines are offputting (as is the inputting of all the book titles/authors in all caps, breaks so many usability/readability guidelines).

Plus, the blog is on Blogspot itself? Surely blog.buythebookcv.com set to map itself to the Blogger servers would both look more professional and be more effective?

Plus it'd give more control if they decide to see sense and move to a non-crap blogging platform.

The animated gif at the bottom suggesting registration witha badly pixellated flashpast of an Anita Blake book looks a bit poor as well. And what's with the text-as-graphic thing as the site description? Google killed off that as a design technique almost immediately after Google launched.

Um, yeah, looks like an interesting catalogue of books. Definitely needs a complete overhaul of site design though.

Reading in the bathroom

I have the biggest pile of books, newspapers and magazines you could imagine in the bathroom. Even my daughter, who is 9, reads there. It might well be weird, but who cares?

I would definitely be that sort of weirdo, I tend to opt for the radio come bathtime because as enjoyable as books are they; my butterfingers and a tub of bathwater equal soggy books.

That school and their list? Banning the Divine Comedy? What the blue buggery fuck? If its a Catholic school shouldn't that be required reading or something?

Oh, and I don't keep books in the bathroom, because I have to share it with four other people. Although even then I try to spend as little time as possible in the loo, reading in the shower is not good for books.
