In more amusing (if slightly personally embarrassing) news, and speaking of Doctor Who writers, Daddy Alex has confessed to me that he went to a Doctor Who event on Saturday and might have inadvertently told my favourite Doctor Who writer about my huge crush on him. Oops.

Oh well. If you're reading this, Mr Lidster, sir, you have no need to run screaming in terror. It's very unlikely you will ever have the misfortune of meeting me, and if you do all that will happen is I will go red and stare at my shoes and mumble a lot, like I generally do when confronted with people I admire greatly. You can ask all the people who were present for the blogger interview with Vince Cable for confirmation of this if you like. I had to have a very large swig of brandy before I was capable of speaking, and was uncharacteristically quiet for the whole thing, aside from my question about bees. Which I really ought to write up at some point...

You and me both. I am clinging to the crumb of comfort that the actual number of people voting for them went down, but it's not that comforting to know that my taxes are going into those wankers' pockets.

Not that pleased about all the UKIP lot that got in either, in a way I find them more worrying than the BNP since from a distance they seem so nice and reasonable. Admittedly I don't know all that much about them but they just don't seem quite right to me.

UKIP are very similar to the BNP, yes, despite Farage's protestations to the contrary.

We have to engage with their arguments. No platform was always a stupid idea anyway.

Things are a bit better up here in Scotland, but even so, only about a third of the electorate bothered to vote. Predictably, the SNP and Labour are still comfortably in the lead, but 27,174 votes for the BNP is 27,174 votes too many.

The small part of me that was glad I moved away from Yorkshire was smothered in despair when I remembered we're still stuck with Richard Barnbrook on the London Assembly. I want to start my own party - first and only item on the manifesto: deport bigots and racists to Siberia.
