OK, my new phone is on its way. I am checking the tracking obsessively. It's in Northampton! And it needs a name...

It is a Nokia 5800. Perhaps something Viking-y, given the nationality of the manufacturer? The little wrist strap and plectrum combo doesn't half look like a devil's tail, too. Something demonic? Do we know of any Finnish demons?

For reference, other named appliances in this household include my laptop (McGruder) desktop (Frankenputer) and Car (Kaligula).

Suggestions in the comments, please!

ETA: OOOOOOO it's in Tamworth!

You're right mat, I don't bother to do that, mainly because my openid goes back to a website that I no longer update (not that I actually update my more recent one either), so although that was slightly harshly written (it brought a pang of despair to my heart, I thought you liked me and my trip to J.S. Mill's grave) I understand the criticism.

But then, why does it format my link in the preview? Why not just unformat it there and then and say "sign up or eff off"? Then I would have known where I was going wrong.

So the only way to have hmtl links on dreamwidth is by having a dreamwidth account? Which can be purchased through money or favour? And if I don't want to join the cool kids full time I am forever labelled as a spambot?

Nah, wasn't meant to be harsh, an elipsis is sorta like a smiley with added snark ;-)

But yeah, the OpenID implementation currently is a bit poor (still better than pretty much anywhere else online, but still poor), and the spam blocking functionality is of questionable value.

I don't know why the preview shows it'll work when it won't, that's daft, and I also don't know when they're going to improve the OpenID login UI (it's planned, I know that).

Hopefully by the end of open beta they'll have proper formatting for OpenID accounts that are validated, they're specifically pushing OpenID as a commenting function. But if you want an invite code, I have some spare.

Besides which, if you have a current website, put an OpenID redirect into the header, and use that URL, then it'll point to your current domain. The code's easy, this is what I had to put for my LJ (copied direct from an old domain):

And having a very brief look at the source from your linked address, copy this into your header on the new blog:

And you now have a fully working OpenID from your current domain—you can change the delegate and server ID if you want, Google and Yahoo are now providing OpenID verification although it's not as easy to get it right with the code (as in, I've never bothered).

At some point, I'd love to see it so that you can only comment on someone's blog with an OpenID or a login on that site, would make dealing with spam and sockpuppetts so much easier.

Ah, I always had an ellipsis down as more of general sigh and a muttering under the breath about the state of youth today. Seems I need to bone up on my leet.

Thanks very much for the header code, I'll give that a go. and also thanks for the offer of the invite. I'll skip for the moment, as I don't think I'd put it to much use, more worthwhile giving them to people who'll do something within the community for the time being.
