Torchocalypse Day One: #torchwood review with spoiler cuts.

Oh. My. God.

That was actually GOOD. Better than good. It was great. Pacing was perfect, suspense was building, ending was a stunning cliffhanger: wa-HEY!

I was sad when Rupesh got shot because I kind of liked him. He was pretty. Even when he shot Jack. And Peter Capaldi is clearly an evil politician which is a shame because that's a bit predictable. Is his secretary one of the Cusack sisters by the way? I forgot to check the credits.

I liked Tim/Clem. He was a nice quirky detail. And I loved all the little domestic touches. Stephen's mum and Jack were a nice character study, and Ianto's sister and her boyfriend were a scream. And the couple stuff between Jack and Ianto was just lovely.

I didn't like the fact that there weren't that many good female characters in comparison to male characters, and the outstanding new female character was the woman who shot Rupesh. They could have had one of the ministers or something be female. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing Lois's character develop. She looked pretty cool. And pretty. But A+ for racial and sexual orientation diversity (which is normal for Crotchw00t, really), even if they had a bit of genderfail. And didn't Colonel Mace have a GORGEOUS voice?

All in all, I am really looking forward to tomorrow :D YAY! I ENJOYED IT!!

LOL You realise my FIRST thought after this (apart from various "fuck, I want to tie John Barrowman to my bed") was "RTD..if you fuck this up I am coming after you with a very large axe".

It's good! Bloody good!

Colonel Mace wasn't in it. They said he was in Toronto. Are you thinking of someone else? Colonel Oduya perhaps?

Wan't it fab!!! I heart Eva Myles, she realy carried this ep. Loving Peter Capaldi, obviously and, yes, I'm worried that RTD will eff it up. Still, its building nicely....

Good, wasn't it? It seems that they've finally figured out how to make the programme work! :)

I haven't watched that much Torchwood - there has just never been enough time - but I really enjoyed this.

I think there is lots of potential with Lois - it'll be good to see how she develops. Wonder if she'll be added to the team at the end. Hope she's not there just to be sacrificed at some point.

It certainly had drama, tension and comedy in huge amounts.

Can't wait for tonight.

It was brilliant, Torchwood is at it's best when they mix real life with sci-fi, the little back stories and family moments, really make the show.

*** below here lies spoilers***

A belly bomb, what evil genius that lady is. How on earth can he awaken in one piece.

They've got some EP2 previews up on the BBC Website > http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood ()

A+ for racial and sexual orientation diversity

I dunno. Rupesh turns out to have been duped by the dark side, which is a bit of a pattern in Torchwood, and Ianto's "it's not men - it's just Jack", while I find it very sweet from a fangirl point of view, isn't so good from a bi visibility perspective (especially given that in Bob and Rose RTD gives a very similar speech, with gender reversed, to a gay man who has fallen in love with a woman). I don't think it quite fails on either count, but I think I'd give it a B rather than an A.

I was dead sure Rupesh was going to become their new medic, so I was surprised when he turned out to be a baddie, and even more surprised when he was killed off. Telly that manages to surprise me automatically earns high marks.
I'm sure that we were supposed to be shocked when we saw Jack's name on the To Be Killed list in that email, but I just started giggling, thinking of the poor bugger who gets that assignment.
"Alpha One to Control, the subject has been terminated."
"Copy that, Alpha One. Proceed to-"
"Bugger me!"
"Repeat, Alpha One?"
"*bang bang* Stay dead, you bastard! *bang*"
"Alpha One, do you copy?"
"Er... Slight problem, Control. I may be here a while."
