Date: Monday, October 12th, 2009 03:52 pm (UTC)Yes the system was a bit shit, and MPs were able to claim for a lot of stuff that perhaps they shouldn't have been able to claim for - but the rules allowed for it. So my view is just that the expenses system should be restructured, and claims from that point on should be reviewed to ensure they are within the new system.
Anyone who has fraudulently claimed should face a criminal investigation for fraud. But as for the rest, I find it had to vilify people for making the most of what is available to them.
Sure, maybe they should set a good example or whatever, but I find it hard to get worked up over this.
