A Moral Dilemma

Inspired by this article in the Graun. You go to pay at a parking meter and it gives you £3 too much change. What do you do?

My own answer is the second one, and if that's not possible, the third. I would view it as theft to take the money. Yes, a small theft, with very little chance of any consequence for myself, but theft none the less. Mat says he would take the money, citing the harm principle. I can understand his argument, but it would feel wrong to me to take the money.

What do you lot think?

In other news, because I bitched at Sensei Puddin' on Friday about how my legs were killing me after Thursday's karate session, we did lots more leggy stuff tonight. Or perhaps I am investing myself with too much importance. Either way, my legs are killing me again.

Still, it's doing me good, and I am feeling the benefit when I'm NOT completely knackered. Healthiness is a good thing.

Climbing tomorrow! Yay!

I've been doing mine. It's very depressing. Things like clothes and dentistry and new glasses come under can't afford this right now, which is very annoying because I really need a new bra. BUT I can make it balance, and still afford to go climbing with my dad and do Liberal Drinks once a month, as long as I am very very careful, and also save all my tips from work instead of drinking them. This is not going to be easy.

Still, Mat is doing paid work today, and we have a paid blog redesign project to do together, so there is light at the end of the tunnel...

So, for some time now it has been arranged that my brother and I would be going to the football on Saturday, and since it's a Leyton match we would meet up with [personal profile] djm4 beforehand for lunch and go to the match together.

My brother just cried off, and I've never been to a match on my own before.

If I do what I'm supposed to and go in the home supporters' stand I will be all on my own in a sea of people I don't know. If I go and sit with David in the Away Supporters' stand, I might inadvertently cheer when my team score and get beaten up. What should I do, oh all-knowing internets?

Firstly, it's coming up to the 21st of the month which is when I change sponsor. I do have one lined up, but he's not been particularly active on his blog, so I'm not sure it's worth his money me linking to him at the moment; also he's a PPC, so sensibly his timeslot should be the month before the election... Anybody fancy giving me some money for next month? Or anybody I owe money to fancy reducing my debt a bit? Drop me an email (jennieDOTriggATgooglemailDOTcom) or leave a comment to this post if you want to appear at the bottom of my every post for the next month.

Secondly, my sidebar is getting too big, so I am going to take some stuff out of it. The thing is, I don't want to take stuff out that people find useful. I'm going to merge sponsors and quotes into "endorsements" and have a post to link to for the majority of them. I am also thinking of removing page summary, and possibly the tag cloud. What do you guys think about this?

So here I am at half past three in the morning, working out how to do polls on my blog from my mobile phone. Severe back pain meant I wasn't going to get much sleep anyway tonight, but Mat's nasal orchestra certainly isn't helping. Well, apart from that it inspired the following poll:

OK, so I went to Leeds Pride and had a really good time. And I'm tempted by Manchester Pride on Saturday. The thing is... Well, the two things are:
  1. I have to be at work for four, and I'm not sure I can be arsed marching and then dashing back to the car to get to work on time; and
  2. I have had 2 invitations to join marching groups, and I'm not sure which one to accept if I go. This is complicated by the fact that both people who have invited me to join their marching group could conceivably fit into the other group...
So, sweet f-list, I want you to make my decision for me...

[personal profile] awesomegore is pondering a new car. She has mentioned she might like an Elise to upstage her Evil Housemate of Doom, who has just bought a new car to pwn her little MX5. My suggestion is that, for one who has the personality and convictions of Ms Gore, there's only one car which is incapable of being upstaged. Jag XKR, British Racing Green, Cream leather.

It's a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. I'm sorry, I didn't deliver the Focus leaflets. I left them in the Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. Yes, I did run over your kitten, but I did it in a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. People will forgive you ANYTHING in a Jag, in fact, more than that, people will feel AFFECTION for you, even as you're doing them over, because you're clearly a Bond villain, or other rogueish yet strangely forgiveable person if you drive a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. And if there's one thing that says Charlotte, it's roguish, but strangely forgiveable.

Fresh Squeezings from the veins of the internet!

And today's Meme is more of a poll. Tim Ireland at Bloggerheads is organising a boycott of the Total Bollocks guide to blogging. I don't know what to make of it. I appeared in it last year, and got a free copy of the overpriced and ill-informed pamphlet thereby generated for my trouble, and found it a singularly uninspiring experience.

My usual reaction to La Dale is to just ignore him. The more we read him, the more we link to him, the more entrenched he gets in his self-appointed role of BlogDaddy. He's the Iqbal Sacranie of bloggers, and I don't want to encourage that. The thing is, Tim Ireland's reaction to him is just as bad, to my mind. Ranting and raving and going on about him all the time is just giving him clicks. Clicks don't register as approving or outraged, they are just eyeballs on his site. Anyway, my question for you, dear f-list, is this: Should I participate in the Total Bollocks web guide this year or not? Do we want to infiltrate and subvert, or just ignore, and hope it goes away?

... but what do you think, dear F-list?

[Poll #1067771]

I have spent most of the morning in search of a suitable dog bed for Byron which is not ludicrously expensive. It looks like I am going to be spending about £30 (I found a website with some on clearance which will be fine) if my Last Hope (mum's friend Martin) doesn't come up trumps. This is all because poor old Byron he has been usurped by Mister Mat and is being FORCED not to sleep on mummy's feet any more. I feel terribly guilty about this and am looking to assuage that guilt by making his chosen sleeping spot (the top of the stairs) a bit more comfy for him. So I went round TWO pet supermarkets this morning, and have been looking online too, trying to find a doggy bed that is the right size, shape, and comfiness# but isn't £200. I really didn't think it would be THAT difficult to get a dog bed that fits my criteria, but obviously I am too choosy.

However, although I haven't got Byron's bed sorted out, I HAVE got a new climbing branch for Mr Pug and a new hide because he's getting too big for his skull. I miss my Puggy. Mat gave him a little cuddle last night when we went for custody visit with Pug and to pick Shrubby up. It was all cute.

# it must be soft, and 30"/76cms in width, and rectangular. This is because it needs to fit on the landing at the top of the stairs. And oval one will get torn quickly, a hard one is no good when humans need to walk over it (would be a recipe for stubbed toes) and obviously if it's too big it won't go in the gap and too small and it will have gaps round the sides.
