Birthday Honours and musings on the year passed.

I'd like to thank all those of you who have commented/tweeted/emailed/phoned/texted to wish me a happy birthday.

So thanks to (in no particular order, and hopefully not missing anyone):

[personal profile] magister, [personal profile] matgb, [personal profile] evilawyer, [personal profile] po8crg, [personal profile] el_staplador, [personal profile] moonhot97, [personal profile] sir_guinglain, [personal profile] purplecthulhu, [personal profile] gominokouhai, [profile] dave_godfrey, [personal profile] yoyoangel, my mum, my dad, my brothers, my daughter, my ex, Helen Duffett, Nissemus, Andy Emmerson, Aremay, Stephen Tall, Dave Page, CJJC, ACMcG, MrsREJC, pickwick, eruvadhril, Abi__Normal, WGP_Josh, TeaKayB, Holly and Andrew (or possibly Andrew and Holly), ZooRockGirl, and possibly some other people who I can't find by scrolling back through twitter replies and blog comments. Somehow I find it comforting that over half of those people are folks whom I know by a pseud, even those whom I have met and spent time with in meatspace.

Anyway, you're all lovely and I am a very lucky old trout indeed.

*snuggles you all*

My birthday has been a somewhat LotR-filled day, having watched (and live-tweeted through) the 1978 animated film and had both Mat and James playing Lego LotR on the Playstation while I do stuff on the computer. I haven't got dressed all day, and it's been lovely and relaxing. And best of all, after some wrangling with T-mobile on the phone earlier, my new phone will be coming soon (although given the time of year, postage, etc, not soon enough).

This year has been a bit odd, and seen a total change of career, but I have certainly ended it pretty happy. I have a decent job with great colleagues, a nice house, and lots of family and friends I love and who love me. I could do with more time and more money, but both are better than they were this time last year. All in all, I am feeling very contented as I sit here with my G&T typing this.

3 Birthdays.

And I'm on the cusp of them. Yesterday, the 4th, is my brother [profile] angeliiii's birthday. Jon was a huge part of my chilhood, even though he's a lot older than me and moved away when I was younger than Holly is now, and I still miss him. Although, you know, him living in Brum is proving kind of useful in a couple of weeks' time...

Today, the fifth, is (pretty famously) Freddie Mercury's birthday. I had a whole post in my head about that, but none of it seems to make sense when I go to type it. Freddie was a pretty big part of my childhood too, and it's a weird thing that his birthday is the day after my brother's.

It's even weirder that it's the same day as [personal profile] matgb's. Neither Mat nor I are any good at birthdays - either our own or other people's - and this weekend has been a bit freaky for all sorts of reasons so neither of us is really feeling very celebratory right at the moment. Still, he is my Mat and I love him, so I wish him happy birthday, and hope that this year is more settled and secure than last. It's showing signs that it might be.

I don't tend to do birthday posts.

Mainly because I am rubbish at birthdays; both my own and other people's. However, I am going to bend that rule today to wish a very happy birthday to [personal profile] djm4, who is one of the most thoughtful, most considerate people I know. He's someone I wish I could be more like, a lot of the time.

Have a great day, David.

Buffdays

Happy Buffday to [livejournal.com profile] gilesgurl and the lovely James May.

I think I bit my tongue in my sleep. It has all painful lacerations on it. Woe. Could be something to do with the dreams I had last night.

Honestly, what do people expect when they tell me this?
"...Samuel West follows his parents, Timothy West and Prunella Scales, in appearing in Midsommer Murders. He plays Jeremy Thacker, a virgin in his 30s."
Cue lots of deflowering dreams.

In other news, Shrubby has been watching Peppa Pig this morning and is now insisting on calling me "mummy pig"...
