I have heard a number of suggestions for good walking down the aisle music. My friend Claire had Friday I'm In Love by the Cure, and [livejournal.com profile] icekestrel today suggested Eve of the War from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds. I still think [livejournal.com profile] burlesque_bunny has the right plan with The Imperial March from Star Wars, though... But what do you guys reckon?

[Poll #1191407]

Mister Mat is snoring and sweating feverishly beside me. I was pretty poorly yesterday, but am much better today. He seems to be worse today. Please to be sending him get better vibes? I doesn't like my lovely fiancé being all poorly :(

I have been giving him lots of hugs and stuff, but that doesn't seem to be working :(

The Imperial March is definitely a winner.

Although I'm surprised you're not going with the Wedding March by Queen from Flash Gordon! It's maybe not long enough to get you down the isle though, unless you run.

Alternatively, how about the Ying Tong Song, by the Goons? :P

We used music that seemed to work and would seem 'OK' to the non fans at the wedding - that said out of the 60 odd guests I's say 40 were 'fannish'..

People gathered to 'Blade Runner Blues', Reet walked down the aisle to 'Han and Leia's Theme' from Empire (which DOES turn into the Imperial March - but Reet would have had to have taken almost a minute to get from the doors of the room to the desk at the front and the maid of honour made sure she didn't - even though she tried to dawdle that long lol). Blade Runner Blues again during register signing then left the room to 'One More Kiss Dear' again from Blade Runner.

Our first dance was the Rod Stewarts version of 'Faith Of The Heart' from Patch Adams - now as this was before Enterprise had reached these shores only 4 people there recognised it as also being it's theme ;-) ...

Yes - Ok we are trekies - I dont deny it - lets be honest these pics http://vindolandia.livejournal.com/3417.html from our Fifth anniversary vow renewal cereomony in Vegas sort of give it away ;-)

I'm arranging the Super Mario Brothers Theme for organ.

[livejournal.com profile] laumiere and [livejournal.com profile] vilenspotens had the ceremony fanfare from the end of Star Wars (complete with Wookiee roar from one of the guests). This, naturally, had all the geeks in giggles while some of the more elderly guests looked on bemusedly.

For the processional, play the theme from The Simpsons and both of you run all around and through the room before ending up together at the front of the room near the end of the song.

For the recessional, make a cardboard doorway painted to look like the Tardis, have someone hold it up across the exit door at the end of the ceremony, then go through it to "start your journey"

You also might want to use the theme from Twin Peaks somewhere. It's not a march, it's just creepy, atmospheric music, maybe good for the beginning of the reception.

Every geek wants the Star Wars march. Subvert the dominant paradigm, I say. Go with Space: 1999.

Although I second [livejournal.com profile] pmoodie's suggestion of the Queen march. Or you could mix it up a bit, and use March of the Black Queen.

Oh, "The Imperial March" all the way. Ideally, you should also enter with smoke in front of you and lit from behind, casting a long shadow upon that altar and your husband-to-be. Perhaps even invest in some stormtrooers to flank you.

Alternative suggestions:
"The call of Ktulu" or "Welcome home (Sanitarium)" by Metallica, "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC or "This corrosion" by The Siters of Mercy. ("Raining blood" by Slayer or anything off the first RATM-album might also be good ;-D )

Dave and I left to the sound of the Star Wars overture - and it made people laugh even though most of the people there weren't fannish types. Every time I hear it now I think about walking out of the court room with Dave and how happy we were at that moment as two geeks together (and we still are!!)

and [livejournal.com profile] xiv_gemina thought it was great!

I voted Imperial March, but Indiana Jones would be good. Or Libertry Bell from Monty Python. Otherwise some other Monty Python song you like a lot (presuming Mat likes Monty Python as much as you do).

Ideally, start with the classic wedding music stuff, then cut into Imperial March - they'd blend nicely at the end of the drop.

i.e. (blue for wedding, red for Star Wars)

And yeah, iron lung sounds and masses of dry ice for the entrance would go nicely too :D
