A stray thought sidled in, and, despite its ill-advised nature, refused to be ejected until it had been asked.

Great stuff. Yes, exactly the right tone.

...yes I am loving Elementary, even if I sometimes have problems getting past the first bit of spelling it ;)

Elementary being better than Sherlock is not a controversial opinion in my neck of the internet :)

I wish I could comment on the relative awesomenesses of Elementary & Sherlock, but it doesn't look like I'll get to see the former until some spare cash comes along with "Elementary DVD box set" written down the middle of it. :( Oh well...

But as far as the new Who theme arrangements go, one of the most annoying things about the new series is that they don't stay true to the spirit of Delia Derbyshire's arrangement. Hers was beautifully minimal; the new themes have all been "chuck a full orchestra and a kitchen sink at it and hope that the resulting pomp gets people to forget that the theme tune used to be something that kept people awake in the small hours".

A bit like the show itself, come to think of it...
