... but only because so many people I care about made such impassioned pleas (and in some cases told me their own tales of teetering on the edge of leaving).

I'm not the world's happiest bunny right now. But I'm clinging on.

Keep clinging.

In the end we disagreed on this - I hope to blog my own thoughts at some point - but we really would be a poorer party without you.

I think the challenge for us all is to work to secure a environment where AWS are redundant: and that will take people on all sides of this issue to sort.

Yep. This has made me far more determined than I was to try to work towards fixing a lot of the cultural stuff in the party. Unfortunately, given my spoon overdraft, I don't know if I'll be *able* to do anything, but it's made it a higher priority, since it's clear that a lot of the party can't be trusted to do anything...

When 3 young women get up on stage and say in front of 2000 people that even after all the stuff we already know that a range of things from disrespect of personal space to sexual harassment and assault are so common that every female member of LY they know has experienced it, the party has to sit up and take notice. My first step as an FE member is to want to talk to them and to get their ideas on sorting this out.

That's not the only thing, though, as we know. I mentioned some of them in my speech and made the point that they had not happened in the dark ages when I joined the party, but two weeks ago.

But just today on Facebook, I've seen a young woman mansplained at and told she's contributing to her own oppression by a supposed feminist man. The hostile atmosphere of online spaces is an ongoing worry.

We will sort this out.

I am so relieved.

Please never think that the prospect of you leaving never crossed my mind. It was always there and I found it pretty emotional to propose the motion on something that I have believed so passionately in for decades knowing that so many people I love feel equally passionately the other way.

Thank you for the love and respect you have shown me all the way through this. It really, really is appreciated.

I hope you keep clinging on. In a way, I'm glad I couldn't make it to conference as I'm still not sure what way I'd have voted. I'm torn between the arguments and both sides are supported by people in my 'usually always right' and 'if you're on the same side of an argument as this person, you're doing it wrong' lists.

But there's a definite need for a cultural change in the party, and far too many people with their heads in the sand over that. I don't know ho to win that fight, but I know we need people like you on board if we're going to.

Yes, all this (though I would have voted against, because the vast majority of the women in my "usually always right" list were on that side, Caron being one of the few exceptions).
