Fannish5: Five favourite fanon "facts"

5, Regeneration in Doctor Who is not random: when a time lord regenerates (s)he actually selects from a "rack" of pre-determined forms. This means that the Sixth Doctor looks like Colin Baker because the fifth Doctor and Maxil were secret lovers, and in regeneration he took the form of the man he loved.

4, Dried Frog Pills contain no frog whatsoever, and are in fact completely vegan.

3, Christopher Lee only has two ways of acting a death scene. Death scene #1 involves falling to his knees, with a shocked expression, and then keeling over backwards. Death scene #2 involves falling to his knees, with a shocked expression, and then keeling over forwards. When challenged on this he will always reply that he has seen death and knows how it happens.

2, Pratchett dwarf lore applies in LotR too, and Gimli is really a girl.

and, of course

1, "Doris", the wife of Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart in Doctor Who, is a post transition Sgt Benton.

Ashes to Ashes finale

I have to admit, I didn't guess who 6620 was. That was a really good finale; tied up a lot of loose ends, did so without deus ex machina, and felt like it reached a conclusion for each of the characters without actually closing all of them off forever.

And yet... and yet...

It felt rushed, especially the climactic scenes; I read somewhere that the original cut had been 20 minutes longer, and this doesn't surprise me. I didn't cry, although I expected to.

I think I need to watch it again.

Spoilers under the cut )

All in all this episode, and the series in general, gets a big hurrah from me. It deserves huge amounts of plaudits and awards, and I hope it gets them. And it beat the crap out of Life on Mars. But I really, really want to see that longer cut of the final episode.

Doctor Who Glorified Trailer

No spoilers here, just a question. Why do people think that everything the Doctor says is the truth? There are some times when he is CLEARLY joking...

Pissing on Jeremy Brett's Grave

Words cannot express how hard my jaw hit the table when I saw this trailer for Guy Richie's Holmes movie this morning.

It's going to be horrendous. It's going to be awful. It's going to be disgustingly unfaithful to both the source and the definitive interpretation by Brett.

It's got naked Robert Downey Junior in it.

I'm going to have to go see it, aren't I? And then immerse myself in cleansing Brett!Holmes afterwards.

Header is now sorted to my satisfaction. For those of you who have an interest in such things, the people and things represented are below the cut ) I have also buggered about with the CSS a bit in order to get rid of the HUGE gap between entries, and make it a more pleasingly svelte gap The problem now is that the text of entries/comments doesn't wrap around the icon. Mat's proposed solution to this was increasing the size of the entry header, which would push the entry text down below the icon, so we tried it, but the method he suggested (increase header font size) seems to be disabled by something else. We've put in
.entry-content, .comment-content {
padding-top: 30px;
as a bodge, but it's not satisfying to me. I'd like to wrap if I can. Any ideas, oh CSS gurus in my readership?
